Getting involved at Central Hall

The Methodist Church at Coventry Central Hall is made up first and foremost of people! We’re a varied community coming together with different experiences, gifts, hopes and dreams. We hope that if you decide to make this church your church, that you will soon feel at home and become part of the community. As well as sharing in worship on Sundays, there are lots of different ways you can get involved in the life and work of Central Hall, on Sundays and through the week. We hope you’ll find something that interests you here!

Life groups

One of the most important ways of getting involved is to be part of a Life Group. Life Groups meet together weekly or fortnightly to pray, to study the Bible and to help support each other to live as Christians. For more information, see the separate Life Groups leaflet.

Wesley’s Coffee Lounge

Wesley’s is our cafe that’s open Monday to Saturday. It serves drinks, meals and snacks and welcomes people into the building throughout the week. It also generates income which supports our wider work. In addition to the Wesley’s core staff, Julie (on the counter) and Steve (the chef) we depend on a range of volunteers who help with serving food, clearing up and chatting to the customers. We always welcome more volunteers, whether you’d like a regular weekly slot or to come in from time to time. Speak to Paul in the office, or Julie in Wesley’s.

Maintenance

A building like this takes a lot of effort to keep everything working and looking its best. We have a volunteer maintenance crew who usually work on a Monday and tackle a whole range of tasks from replacing light bulbs to renovating rooms! We also organise painting parties and other work groups from time to time. If you’ve got some DIY skills and are keen to help out, we’d be glad to hear from you. Speak to Paul in the office or Stuart, our Property Steward.

Pastoral visiting and CHATS

As a church we aim to exercise care for one another. One aspect of this that’s not often seen is care for people who are getting older and find it harder to go out. We have a team of people who are willing to visit church members in their homes and be a friendly face who can have a chat and a cup of tea. Four times a year, we hold a special service (CHATS) on a Sunday afternoon specially for those who find it hard to come on a Sunday morning which is followed by sandwiches, tea and cake. If you’d like to help with visiting or with CHATS, speak to Doreen our Pastoral Secretary. New pastoral visitors need to go through a selection process and complete safeguarding requirements.

Children’s ministry

Children’s ministry runs as part of our Sunday morning programme, most Sundays of the year and on Tuesday mornings we have Tots in Town, a parent and toddler group. Both are supported by a team of volunteers. If you’d be interested in this please speak to Lauren our Children and Families Leader. New volunteers for Children’s Ministry need to go through a selection process and complete safeguarding requirements.

Hosting teams

Our Sunday morning hosting teams take care of the practicalities of worship, by welcoming people, making sure that the building is open with the lights turned on and that everything’s ready for worship. We always welcome more members of the stewarding teams. Speak to our Senior Steward, Elaine if you’re interested.

AV team

As you might have noticed, we use AV resources in a variety of ways in our services. We have a small team of people who look after this and keep things running smoothly. If you’d like to be involved, speak to David.

Musicians

We have a worship band that plays in Breath of Life and for some of the services when we’re together in the Main Hall. We also have a rota of organists who play in Beauty of Holiness and for some other services. If you have musical talents you’d like to offer, speak to Marcus our Worship and Band Leader.
